Dallas’ Best Cocktails for Fall

One of Texas’ Top Bartenders Shares His Tips and Tricks

BY // 09.24.17

It’s Fall, y’all! Holiday celebrations are just around the corner and we have some party tricks to share courtesy of The Mansion Bar and Zephyr Gin. These two seasonal cocktails are festive, fresh and joyfully simple to make. They were created by the Mansion’s expert bartender Danny Caffall, but don’t worry, there’s barely any “mixology” involved.

Put yourself in an autumnal state of mind with the Harvest Breeze — a cocktail that packs a spicy punch without tasting like a Yankee Candle (Fireball, we’re looking at you). It’s super light and refreshing for those 85 degree fall-in-Dallas days.

Or get fruity with Sweather Weather, a fennel-spiced cranberry number with a twist of orange. It’s perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas, but it tastes pretty damn good now, too.

Here are the recipes:

Harvest Breeze

  • 1.5 oz Zephyr Gin
  • 1 oz corn apple liqueur
  • .75 oz cinnamon falernum
  • .75 oz iced tea
  • green apple

Add gin, corn apple liqueur, cinnamon falernum and iced tea in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into an old fashioned glass with ice. Garnish with a curl of apple peel. Or just a strip – the curl is tricky.

Sweater Weather

  • 1.5 oz Zephyr black gin
  • .75 oz orange fennel simple syrup*
  • .75 oz lemon juice
  • 2 dashes of cranberry bitters
  • sprig of fresh fennel

Mix gin, orange fennel simple syrup, lemon juice and cranberry bitters into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until chilled. This one is pretty boozy, so don’t skimp on the shaking. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a sprig of fresh fennel.

*The orange fennel simple syrup is easier than it sounds: Boil one part sugar, one part water with chopped fresh fennel and orange peels. Let cool before using. See? Not too bad.

If you want to make things easier, head over to The Mansion Bar and get the cocktails straight from the source. We won’t judge.
